100% Increase In GNAT Mutual Fund Contributions plus 3 Other Top Issues
The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) at its 2023 Annual Council Meeting (ACM) has resolved that effective January 2024, Mutual Fund contributions will increase from GHS50.00 to GHS100.00.
Key issues and resolutions reached include a 100% Increase in GNAT Mutual Fund Contributions, Laptop Distribution, Refund of Over-deduction of GHS44.55, And Promotion Date for those due for promotion.
Details of the 100% Increase in GNAT Mutual Fund Contributions, Laptop Distribution, Refund of Overdeduction of GHS44.55 And Promotion Date Discussed
The issues tabled and discussed at the meeting were as follows:
A. The laptop distribution is currently underway but has experienced delays. The Minister assured that everyone who paid for a laptop will receive one.
B. The over-deduction of 44.55 will be reimbursed in October and November 2023, with the leadership already informed.
C. Regarding promotions, some successful candidates have already received their placements and payments, while the remaining promotions will be processed in October and November.
D. Professional Development Allowances will be disbursed.
E. Minimum contribution to the Mutual Fund will increase from 50.00 to 100.00, effective January 2024.
Educators who are members of GNAT have fumed against the decision to increase the Mutual Fund contributions from GHS50.00 to GHS100.00
The GNAT Institute for Research and Industrial Relations Studies Council Board was established and met the requirements set by GTEC.
GNAT Loan challenges such as the issue of delays in delivery were tabled at the meeting. The leadership of the union and management of the loan services apologized for the shortfalls and further pledged to address the issue.

According to our sources, the meeting was to be attended by top officials of the MoE including the minister, to discuss the delayed one teacher one laptop distribution, an over-deduction of 44.55 on teachers which has to be refunded to affected educators, promotions of teachers who have met all statutory requirements of the National Teaching Council (NTC), Teachers serving in deprived areas of the country and their allowance due them, and Teachers’ Bungalows.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Hon. John Ntim Fordjour was present at the meeting where the leadership of GNAT Council presented the above matters and got the responses shared above.
The council resolved that souvenirs for GNAT members will be issued to members annually and not every four years as has been the practice.
