STEM quiz competition to boost academic excellence in Islamic schools

In an effort to enhance academic proficiency in STEM education, a social entrepreneurship firm orchestrated a vibrant quiz competition amongst Islamic schools across the Ashanti Region. The primary objective of this initiative was to not only spotlight the inherent talent within Islamic schools but also to emphasize the critical necessity of equipping these schools with adequate resources.

The competition, meticulously crafted to ignite fervor and expertise in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, garnered participation from 81 schools. Serving as a beacon of hope, it aimed to propel Islamic schools towards potential participation in the esteemed National Science and Maths Quiz competition.

The culmination of the event unfolded at the grand arena of the Kumasi Central Mosque, where three distinguished schools—Ar-Rahma, Ghana Muslim Mission, and Salafiya International School—engaged in a riveting battle of intellect. Ar-Rahma emerged triumphant with an impressive score of 47 points, closely followed by Ghana Muslim Mission with 41 points, and Salafiya with 35 points.

Recognizing the exemplary performance, Ar-Rahma was awarded a 42″ digital satellite TV, cash prize of 600 cedis, and a set of educational books, among other accolades. The first runner-up, Ghana Muslim Mission, was bestowed with a ceiling fan, books, and a cash prize of 400 cedis, while the second runner-up, Salafiya, received a standing fan, a cash prize of 300 cedis, and educational materials.

Abubakar Umar Hasan, the astute Chief Executive Officer of Hakia Consult, lauded the students’ acumen and proficiency demonstrated throughout the competition. He underscored the immense potential harbored by these junior high school students to excel in future endeavors, particularly in prestigious competitions like the National Science and Maths Quiz.

Highlighting the challenges encountered by Islamic schools in offering STEM-related courses, Abubakar pinpointed insufficient infrastructure and facilities as major impediments. He stressed the imperative of allocating resources to bolster Islamic educational institutions, thereby empowering them to excel in academic competitions.

Encouraging both students and educators to fervently prepare for future competitions, Abubakar emphasized the significance of proactive readiness and perseverance in surmounting existing barriers. He envisioned a future where Islamic schools would not only participate but also thrive in national academic competitions.

Expressing their heartfelt appreciation, the students conveyed gratitude to the organizers for providing a platform to enhance their academic prowess through healthy competition. They acknowledged the profound impact it would have on their educational journey and expressed eagerness to leverage this experience for their personal and collective growth.

Under the theme “Inspiring Academic Excellence Through Competition,” this remarkable initiative was executed in collaboration with the Islamic Education Unit in Kumasi. It stands as a testament to the commitment towards nurturing academic excellence and fostering a culture of innovation within Islamic educational institutions.

As the curtains drew on this transformative event, it left an indelible mark on the academic landscape, reaffirming the potential of Islamic schools to shine brightly in the realm of STEM education and beyond.
